Candidates should be comfortable making architecture decisions, modeling data, and handling tradeoffs around performance, scalability, and reliability. Experience building and evolving API-driven systems at scale is important. Engineers who have owned systems in production, debugging issues, driving root cause fixes. Clear communication and the ability to partner with product and cross-functional teams

Requirements

Core skills

• Ruby / Ruby on Rails (API-first development)
• PostgreSQL with strong query optimization experience
• Background job processing (Sidekiq or similar)
• RSpec and test-driven development
• AWS fundamentals (ECS/EKS, S3, RDS, etc.)
• Docker / containerized environments
• API design and best practices
• 8+ years building backend systems with Rails
• Strong ownership mindse; able to design, build, and operate services end-to-end
• Experience scaling systems and improving performance
• Comfortable debugging production issues and driving root cause fixes
• Solid understanding of data modeling and tradeoffs
• Ability to mentor engineers and raise the bar on code quality
